Mp Queries Some Arab Expat Hires Against Decree

19 December 2017 Kuwait

Speaker of the National Assembly Marzouk Al- Ghanim has confirmed that the National Assembly will convene Tuesday and hold elections to form the temporary committees. He disclosed the MPs have submitted requests to allocate two hours for discussion on the issue of Jerusalem.

The government has two options either to agree to the request or postpone it for two weeks. However, he added there is a possibility of extending the session to Thursday. He noted by mid-January next year, the Parliament will complete all sessions that were delayed.

Al-Ghanim said he has never intervened in the affairs of the judiciary and will not be dragged into the issue of those who are trying to highlight the case of the so-called ‘political’ prisoners. At the same time, he stressed, he will stop those who want to play in the hands of external parties.

Once again he stressed, that he has never intervened in judicial decisions even before presiding over the National Assembly. He pointed out it is not the duty of the legislature to interfere in the judiciary. He added this has been his habit from the day he entered the Parliament. This was also my position when the Constitutional Court ruled on the one-man one-vote system. He also referred to his compliance with the verdict issued by the Constitutional Court concerning the dispute over the election of the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament.

A citizen has no right to criticize any verdict issued by the judiciary, he said. He pointed out there are some people who want to rub salt in the wounds of the prisoners. “I say frankly, there are two ways to solve the problem one is to win at the expense of the affected people, and two, to give chance for a solution especially since the degrees of litigation is not over yet.”

He added any attempts to involve the legislative power and the judiciary in a dispute will have a bad impact on everyone concerned in this situation.
