Mp Rejects Jailing For Charity Critics
The parliamentary State Priorities Committee has discussed a number of proposals, including the Commercial Cheating and Charity Work bills, during its meeting Wednesday, says Committee Chairman MP Ahmed Al-Fadel.
Al-Fadel pointed out the Charity Work Bill is incomplete and one of its articles stipulates the incarceration of anyone who criticizes any charity organization. He outrightly rejected this article, especially since some charity organizations are engaged in shady and suspicious activities. “These organizations are not above the law and their work is not sacred; hence, it is unacceptable to punish those who criticize them,” he pointed.
Furthermore, in view of recent calls to legalize culturally unacceptable ideas and practices especially those contravening State laws and the Constitution, MP Osama Al-Shaheen urged the government to take a stand and put a stop to this movement. He asserted that Kuwait is an Islamic State, stressing the verses of the Holy Quran call for spreading goodness, preventing wrongdoings and punishing those who act against non-believers. He said anyone proven to have violated these principles should be held accountable
