Mp Wont Support Anti Expatriate Session
Chairman of the parliamentary Human Rights Committee MP Adel Al-Damkhi has stressed the need to address the lopsided population issue, without discriminating against expatriates.
This came after MP Abdulkareem Al-Kandari announced completion of the required number of signatures for a request to hold a special session to discuss the problem. Al-Damkhi clarified that the Kuwaitization policy in government institutions is necessary but it should not be implemented at the expense of expatriates. “If I feel the special session is against expatriates, I will not support it,” he added. In another development, MPs Riyadh Al-Adsani, Abdullah Al-Roumi, Adel Al-Damkhi, Abdulkareem Al-Kandari and Jamaan Al-Harbash have presented a bill to repeal the law on new electricity and water charges as a matter of urgency.
They urged the concerned minister to implement the proposal starting from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette. Meanwhile, MP Abdullah Al-Fahad on Thursday submitted his statement of assets and liabilities to Kuwait Anti- Corruption Authority. He praised the authority for carrying out its duties, calling on the government to fully support the authority. He also urged the executive and legislative authorities to cooperate with the authority, considering its major role is to curb corruption which has been rampant in the country for many years.
He added, “Everyone is demanding for implementation of reforms and combating corruption. The first step is to help the authority play its role effectively, especially since Kuwait’s ranking in the world corruption perceptions index has declined.”
