Mps Proposals Aim For Domestic Consolidation

The MPs, during today’s session of the National Assembly, approved six recommendations and discussed a second parliamentary request of enhancing national unity, reconciliation and consolidating the domestic front in the midst of several internal and regional dangers.

The first recommendation called for the adoption of legislation by the government and the National Assembly to establish a specialized body for the management of crises and disasters, as has been done by many countries in the world.

The second called on the government to submit periodic reports to the National Assembly on the state’s preparedness to confront the threats and crises through its various institutions such as health, food, nutrition, civil defense, national security and others.

The third recommendation called on the National Assembly to form an interim committee to prepare a report on the readiness of the state agencies and institutions to confront the dangers and crises.

The fourth called on the media and educational bodies to work towards the production of meaningful information and methods to strengthen the internal front and national unity.

The fifth recommendation stressed on the importance of providing the Kuwaiti government with an integrated vision of its procedures and mechanisms for dealing with national reconciliation.

The sixth stressed on the need for the establishment of the National Assembly to form a joint committee comprising MPs and the Government to develop and formulate a project for national reconciliation and submit its report to the Parliament.

The Parliament also discussed the Amiri Speech, which His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah gave during the inauguration the second regular session of the 15th legislative term of the National Assembly on the Oct 24, 2017. During the discussion MPs stressed on the need to find solutions to pressing issues and the development of the country and its advancement, pointing to the importance of a realistic vision of the government to enhance the confidence of citizens.

They said the Amiri speech focused on sustainable development and economic reform, expressing their readiness to cooperate with the government to achieve the vision and aspirations of His Highness. They pointed to the importance of full political and economic reform, the provision of public services to citizens, the alleviation of the economic burden on them and the support of the health, education, human development sectors and infrastructure.

A number of MPs criticized some of the government policies of delaying development projects and not responding adequately to parliamentary questions directed by them, stressing their desire to cooperate to achieve them in public interest. The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Issa Al-Kandari adjourned the ordinary Parliament session to Tuesday, Dec 26, 2017.
