Mps Right To Interpellation Incontrovertible - Al-sabeeh
The parliamentary Human Rights Committer intends to open files in order to investigate the alleged human rights violations in prison and to protect the rights of all prisoners in general. Committee Chairman MP Adel Al-Damkhi said he received a letter from Rapporteur of the committee Dr Waleed Al Tabtabaei about what happened to a prisoner despite the Interior Ministry’s promise to treat him well when he was transferred to the hospital, indicating they monitored other violations which will be discussed in the next meeting of the committee.
In a related development, MP Riyadh Al-Adsani unveiled his plan to coordinate with members of the Human Rights Committee in looking into the issue and punish those behind the human rights violations if the allegation is proven true. Meanwhile, a leading parliamentary figure disclosed that Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah will be subjected to interpellation in the next few days. He said he is ready for the upcoming election which is expected to take place within the next three to four months. He disclosed some MPs intend to resign, but the Speaker is trying hard to discourage them from doing so.
Asked about the performance of Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, he pointed the people will evaluate the Speaker and he refused to express his view in this regard. He just said, “the next few days will be full of surprises.” On the government formation, he claimed there are inconsistencies and conflicts which might lead to changes soon. Furthermore, Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hind Al-Sabeeh confirmed that interpellation is the constitutional tool of every MP.
The minister made the statement on the sideline of the opening of the conference on ‘Ahlani’ for a promising future organized by the educational sector. She also praised the role of the Public Authority for Handicapped Affairs (PAHA) in implementing plans to change the prevailing concept that persons with disabilities are not productive and are dependent on others, affirming the civil society organizations are cooperating with the authority in serving the handicapped.
She cited the importance of effective partnership between PAHA, Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET), Ministry of Education and other ministries in serving the handicapped, in coordination with the private sector which offers career opportunities for this category. She stressed that Kuwait, its leadership and government spare no effort in supporting people with abilities whose number reached about 50,000; as well as to motivate, encourage and integrate them with all segments of the society and provide them with necessary social, rehabilitation and psychological services. She added Kuwait remains at the forefront of Middle East countries in taking care of people with special needs, considering it established private schools for these people and associations which handle their affairs and develop their skills.
