Municipality Studying The Possibility Of Requiring Commercial Shops To Close Before Midnight
Kuwait Municipality, in coordination with the Interior Ministry and other concerned institutions, is still studying the possibility of requiring commercial shops to close before midnight, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.
Sources denied rumors that the Municipality issued such a decision, stressing this requires technical and legal studies prior to implementation; as well as the mechanism for implementation.
Sources pointed out the Municipality works according to the second item of Ministerial Decision No. 87/2015 which prohibits the opening of shops beyond the times specified by the Municipality and other relevant bodies. Sources explained the decision is applicable to shops located in private residential areas, not the investment and commercial areas.
;Sources added the previous meetings with the Ministry of Interior tackled the security side of the issue, indicating the discussion focused on closing restaurants, cafés and billiard halls in all areas — commercial, investment and residential. Meanwhile, Public Authority for Industry has specified five industrial sectors to be operating at Al-Na’eem Industrial City, which is located at 70 km west of Kuwait City, reports Aljarida daily. According to an informed source, the city will be developed for pollution-free light and medium level of manufacturing in line with regulations of the Environment Public Authority.
He assured that the city will not carry out industrial activities that can cause pollution such as those related to production of basic materials, cement and tannage. The source declared that the production therein will be divided into five categories such as food and drink including dry foods, textiles, paper, and wood, general metal and chemical products, non-metal products, and fourth generation industrial products.
In addition, Undersecretary of Ministry of Commerce and Industry Dr Khalid Al-Fadhel disclosed that the ministry has taken a series of steps to actualize economic reform. He explained that a chain of laws have been enacted for that purpose, and a new trade registration law is a major aspect of it. Many other decisions are on the way to include the security and bankruptcy laws. However, this will pass through different stages at the National Assembly, Council of Ministers, and the Fatwa and Legislation Department.
