Muslim Brotherhood Cell Planned Expansion In Gcc Countries

08 August 2019 Kuwait

The investigations carried out by the Egyptian security services and a report submitted to the Supreme State Security Prosecution show the ‘Brotherhood cell’ — whose members were recently arrested in Kuwait and extradited to Egypt at the request of the latter — planned to establish Muslim Brotherhood cells in the GCC countries, particularly in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, to expand the group’s activities and raise funds for terrorist operations in Egypt, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting a senior Egyptian security source.

The source added that the plan of the cell members was to infiltrate the Gulf countries to collect economic and political information and feed it to Brotherhood members who have fled abroad and those who will be fleeing specifically people like Mahmoud Hussein, the Secretary-General of the Muslim Brotherhood who is currently living in Turkey.

The source stressed the Egyptian investigations also revealed that the cell collected information on various sectors within Kuwait, and on the political and economic conditions of the country and sent it to Muslim Brotherhood leaders abroad and to the Muslim Brotherhood Al-Sharq and Mekameleen channels based in Turkey to cause damage to Kuwait.

The security source added the Egyptian security services have gathered information about people in Egypt, whom the Kuwait cell sent money, including women who received the money and distributed it among families of Brotherhood members, including those involved in the assassination of the Egyptian Prosecutor General.

The Egyptian source explained one of the surprises that popped up during the investigation was that the cell members sent money to one man in Egypt, identified as Mustafa Q and the money was then sent to the armed elements in Sinai.

The money would be used by Ansar Beit al-Maqdis organization in Sinai to buy weapons to carry out attacks on the army and police forces in Sinai and Al- Arish.

The Egyptian security source said the cell members worked in various sectors inside Kuwait, as teachers, accountants and one of them a pharmacist.

One of the leaders of the Egyptian security services was in contact with the Kuwaiti Minister of Interior Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah, and senior officers of the security services in Kuwait before the cell members were extradited to Egypt and details were given about the plot of the Muslim Brotherhood cell against Egypt and Kuwait.

On the other hand the Al-Rai daily said the investigations with members have revealed serious information, most notably that they ran a money transfer network and the defendants have admitted that some Kuwaiti personalities supported their movements and that they entered Kuwait using fake passports.
