New Kuwait-doha Causeway '34 Percent Complete'

02 August 2016 Kuwait

Kuwait’s new Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Causeway is 34 percent complete, an official from the Ministry of Public Works has been quoted as saying. Ahmad Al Hassan, assistant undersecretary for road engineering, said the under-construction causeway, intended to link Doha with Kuwait’s capital near the start of Ghazali Bridge, is on target for completion in 1,462 days, he told Kuwait Times.

Al Hassan also said the Doha Spur of the project, one of the largest infrastructure projects in the GCC, is costing KD169 million ($559 million). It comprises a 7 kilometre sea bridge that starts from Shuwaikh port and the free trade zone, passes through Kuwait Bay to the west, then through to Um Al Namel islands to Doha, then links with Doha Expressway, totalling 12.4 kilometres.

The causeway is intended to reduce traffic congestion and expand the road network across Kuwait.
