No Amnesty Plan On Cards For Illegal Residents

05 January 2016 Kuwait

Director- General of the General Administration for Residence Affairs Major-General Talal Ma’arafi said a lot of decisions – some of which have come into effect – will be applied to bring the situations under control and give the country more stability, reports Al-Rai daily. Speaking on the linking of the residence permit with the validity of the passport, Ma’arafi said it is a three pronged decision.

The first, he said, the validity of the passport of a person who enters the country on a work permit or family visa should not be less than the two years; the validity of passport for a person entering on visit visa should not be less than 6 months and each person should carry an individual passport – especially in the case of children their names should not be added on the passport of their parents.

Ma’arafi added, the steps taken by the ministry with regards to validity of the residence permit to that of the persons sponsored is associated with (the wife and siblings). He added, a committee shall be formed to look into the negativities and obstacles facing the implementation of the resolutions.

Ma’arafi explained the linkage came after the discovery of cases of violation, such as an expatriate husband with one year residence permit was deported from the country while his wife and children remained in the country because they had a residence permit longer than his, not to mention the divorce cases where the wife took advantage of the five-year residence permit.

Another example is an expatriate sponsor whose residence permit expired for staying outside the country for more than six months while the family remained in the country. Lastly to put an end to rumors, Ma’arafi has denied there is any intention on the part of the government to offer a grace period for the residence law violators to leave the country without paying fines.
