No Prisoner Covered By Amiri Pardon Will Be Released Before National Day Holidays
A security source has strongly denied rumors about the release of any prisoner, saying prisoners who are covered by the Amiri Pardon will not be released before the National Day and Liberation Day celebrations, meaning no prisoner will be released prior to Feb 25, reports Al-Anba daily. The source pointed out that the lists of prisoners is being compiled which will be submitted next week to the Amiri Diwan.
The source added, about 1,000 inmates of various nationalities including women are expected to benefit from the Amiri amnesty. The source revealed the Amiri Pardon committee will submit a proposal to release prisoners who had cooperated with the Iraqis during the invasion and occupation of the country, suggesting that their release will be approved, pointing out at the same time that similar proposals had previously been rejected.
The source said there have been reports that there is a tendency to release the oldest inmate (a bedoun) identified as Malik Sultan. The source stated that he is an Iraqi according to the records and data of the Ministry of Interior, who was previously released to return to his homeland, but the Iraqi authorities refused to receive him, so he was sent back to prison.
The source said that the family of Malik are residents of Britain and have asked help to help him join the family and the British authorities are said to have given the nod within the framework of the policy of family reunion.
