Number Of Housing Projects Being Disrupted Because The Issue Is Linked To Several Reasons Related To Labor Supply
There is a possibility of a number of housing projects being disrupted because the issue is linked to several reasons related to labor supply, reports Al- Qabas daily. The sources said the contractors working on the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) projects during the first quarter of next year will face a number of problems related to the labor to cover the projects and contracts to be signed, in addition to what is currently implemented in the South Abdullah Al-Mubarak, and Al-Mutla’a Residential City.
The sources added the PAHW will need work permits for 15,251 workers in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor, and the Public Authority for Manpower in coordination with the Ministry of Interior and the concerned authorities in 2018. The sources pointed out the disruption will be caused because of the decision not to issue work permits to supervisors, workers and engineers who are below the age of 30.
The sources pointed out, that categories which have been singled out will conflict with the administrative decree No. 1280 of 2017 regarding the organization of work in the private and oil sectors, which stipulates that “it is not permissible to issue work permits for qualified workers from abroad — those with a diploma and above — and for those who are less than 30 years old.
The decree also states that those who are in the country and do not hold diploma are not allowed to change or modify their qualifications after the issuance of this decision, starting from the beginning of the next year. The sources concluded that if the work plan for the provision of work permits by the Public Authority for Manpower was stopped because of its decisions, this will certainly delay the implementation of the projects. Meanwhile, director of the Institute of Communications and Navigation Captain Munthir Al-Kandari disclosed that the institute’s vision is in line with the vision of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Sabah in terms of turning Kuwait into a financial and commercial hub through its graduates in the field to keep up with the labor market, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Al-Kandari said the institute has been conducting meetings with various state institutions to identify their needs and the most wanted specialties, indicated about its constant cooperation with the General Customs Department, Kuwait Fire Service Directorate, Ministry of Education, Kuwait Oil Company and Directorate General for Civil Aviation. He said, “In the past, the students of Arts section used to complete their engineering studies in Britain, but the decision issued by Ministry of Higher Education prevented this because of opposition from Kuwait University, as scientific disciplines were allocated to the scientific section only”.
Al-Kandari stressed that acceptance in the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) comes in accordance with a certain strategy, stressing that the system will give priority to students with higher grades. He indicated that the institute has become an attractive destination for students, becoming a landmark in the country similar to the Kuwait Towers.
