A group of Kuwaitis with a certificate in petroleum engineering organized a sit-in in front of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) in Shuwaikh to protest the policy of recruitment and tests, which they called arbitrary, reports Al-Qabas daily The demonstrators criticized the failure of the KPC to respond to their demands and accused the parliamentarians of not participating in taking up their cause. They also called on the Parliament to support them.

The ‘graduates’ stressed that the policy of employment is governed by favoritism and nepotism, and lamented their unemployment in an oil-producing country. “We have called upon the KPC to recruit Kuwaitis who graduate every year. It is unacceptable that those who have graduated in the petroleum discipline cannot find a job in an oil-producing country,” said the head of the Federation of Petroleum Unions, Muhammad Al-Hajri. The head of the workers’ union, Abbas Awadh called for amending the conditions of what he called ‘acceptance’ in oil companies and stressed on the difficulty of the tests that engineers have done despite the easing of conditions
