Philippines Ban On New Recruitment To Stay Until Conditions Are Met
The Presidential Palace in the Philippines announced today, Thursday, that the total ban on sending new Filipino workers to Kuwait has been formally activated, and he addressed a letter to the government of Kuwait saying that “the ban will continue unless the agreement that was signed between the two countries to ensure the protection of workers is respected.” reports Al Qabas
“After the Philippine approved a decision imposing a total ban on sending all newly appointed workers heading to Kuwait … this ban will be indefinite,” the official Philippine News Agency quoted a presidential spokesperson, Salvador Panelo as saying. Until the terms of the agreement concluded with Kuwait are implemented. ”
“The Kuwaiti government has not yet respected the agreement on the protection of Filipino workers in the Gulf state,” the official agency quoted Labor Minister Silvestre Belo as saying
In response to a question about whether there is a need to amend the existing agreement, Salvador Panelo said: “What is required is tougher implementation of the agreement.” “Despite the killing of another Filipino worker in Kuwait, the Philippine government is not studying the possibility of severing ties with Kuwait,” according to the official news agency.
The Terms
The Philippine government has enumerated the conditions it wants to apply in order to re-send Filipino workers to Kuwait, and Labor Minister Silvestre Belo said, according to the official Philippine News Agency, that “The ban imposed on sending workers to Kuwait may be lifted once the Philippines gets justice after the death of “The maid, JeanelynvVillavende, is an increase in a contract approved by a domestic worker.”
Reaction
When asked about Kuwait’s response to the ban, sources said, according to the Philippine News Agency: “We have not received any response yet, but they have already asked for the ban to be lifted because they have already arrested the maid killers.” The minister said that the Filipino workers abroad who will return home for a vacation will be exempt from the ban, according to the official agency.
