Power Consumption Increased On Monday By About 360 Megawatts
The power consumption increased on Monday by about 360 megawatts compared to the same day last year, bringing the load rate to 12,000 megawatts, which has prompted the Ministry of Electricity and Water to launch an expanded campaign with the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan to enlighten consumers on saving electricity and water, reports Al-Jaridah daily.
Director of the Technical Supervision Department at the Ministry of Electricity and Water Iqbal Al-Tayyar said, “In cooperation with the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Electricity and Water is carrying out a rational campaign to raise awareness about the importance of saving electricity and water throughout the year.
The campaign focuses its efforts during the summer months in an effort to reduce loads during peak hours. “The ministry cooperates with the Mosques Sector of the Ministry of Awqaf in all governorates of Kuwait to educate the worshippers about the importance of rationalization of consumption through the distribution pamphlet on rationalization, which we called ‘habit’.
Energy
She pointed out the energy efficiency teams begin their campaign in cooperative societies as well as in mosques in various governorates of Kuwait, in order to emphasize the importance of cooperation with the Ministry of Electricity during peak periods.
She added, the Ministry of Awqaf and the Cooperative Societies have shown utmost cooperation with the campaign and facilitated the work of the team, noting that “the campaign will not only depend on associations and mosques, but will continue after Eid al-Fitr in various sectors such as the industrial sector during peak hours, which increases the load on the electricity grid, by adjusting the working hours during the peak consumption period She pointed out that the judicial control teams will have a great role to play as well, through cooperation with the Ministry of Education, after the end of the academic year, where these teams will follow up the consumption of electricity and water during the school holidays.
Al-Tayyar added: “During the current period meter readings from mosques will be taken and compared during the same period last year.” She noted, Kuwait wants to turn all mosques into ‘smart mosques’ through the application of modern technology to rationalize consumption in all mosques, after the success of this method in three mosques in different governorates.
