Witnesses Testify In Cases Against Senior Officials
The Ministers Court, chaired by Judge Badr Al-Sara’awi, listened Tuesday to the testimonies of witnesses in a lawsuit filed against former Minister of Health Dr Ali Al-Ubaidi, former undersecretaries Khalid Al-Sahlawi and Mahmoud Abdulhadi, and an employee at a medical equipment company for illegally benefiting from public funds by contracting with a medical services company to supervise the overseas treatment of Kuwaitis in the USA, says Al-Seyassah.
The court will also look into another lawsuit referred to its Investigation Committee based on the accusations hurled at Al-Ubaidi and former senior officials who allegedly received illegal privileges as per the above mentioned contract. The Anti-Corruption Public Authority referred the relevant file to the court.
The Investigations Committee previously listened to the testimony of former official Ali Al-Anzi who affirmed that contracting with the company in USA did not harm the public fund. He said that according to the contract, the cost of the treatment of one patient decreased from more than $150,000 to $135,000.
He added the cost increased to $231,000 when the contract ended. He went on to say that before the signing of the contract with the company, the State was obligated to pay more than $1 billion while the amount decreased to $739 million, thus, the contract saved $567 million public fund
