11 Defendants Freed On Bail In Files Theft Case
The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Adel Al-Huwaidhi suspended the verdict issued by the Criminal Court against 11 defendants in the case of theft of files related to Kuwait’s TMAS Company, and adjourned the case to December 12 for the appearance of the prosecution witness. The detention of two employees and a doorkeeper involved in the case will be extended, while the court released the 11 defendants on bail worth KD 5,000 each.
These defendants are five lawyers, the (Syrian) secretary of the involved law firm, and five representatives of the law firm who are Egyptians. They were previously sentenced by the Criminal Court to one-year imprisonment with hard labor followed by deportation. Representing the secretary of the law firm was Lawyer Abdulwahab bin Salama who told the press that the defense will present facts that will exonerate his client from the charges leveled against her. It is worth mentioning that the Criminal Court sentenced the secretary and a court clerk to ten-year imprisonment with hard labor, sentenced the doorkeeper to seven-year imprisonment, and acquitted a lawyer.
The Public Prosecution had charged the defendants with stealing files related to a case involving Kuwait’s TMAS Company, bribery and disclosure of confidential information. Earlier, the court had acquitted one of the lawyers, who was released on bail worth KD 5,000, after it was discovered that he was not involved in the crime.
