Support For National Product Turns Into A Real Crisis: Report
The issue of supporting the national product turned into a real crisis when farmers criticized the manipulation of prices and decided to distribute their products for free Wednesday and the second concerned party, headed by the Ministry of Social Affairs held an urgent meeting yesterday to contain the problem and work to control the prices of vegetables, reports Al-Qabas daily. Hundreds of tons of cucumbers, tomatoes, leafy vegetables, etc have been destroyed because there are no customers willing to buy them, after the market is over-saturated.
Assistant Undersecretary for Cooperative Societies in the Ministry of Social Affairs Abdulaziz Shuaib said that the ministry held a meeting yesterday with the Ministry of Commerce, the Kuwait Farmers Federation and the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs.
Shuaib said in a press statement that the agreement has been reached to provide all support for the national product, which represents the strategic source of food security for the country, especially as “we are at the peak of the harvest of agricultural products and is almost self-sufficient.” Shuaib said a coordinating committee comprising representatives of the four parties has been formed to hold meetings periodically to discuss the solution of any problems facing national agricultural products and put in place appropriate solutions to satisfy the Kuwaiti farmers and ensure control of prices and reduce the rise.
The Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources has denied what has been circulated in the social media that the fruits and vegetables have been distributed free in the vegetables and fruits market, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting official sources.
The source pointed out the PAAAFR has sprayed locust control pesticides in all the fields in previous weeks and the products thereof are considered a danger to the health of the consumer.
The source stressed the consumer must make sure of the products and the Authority calls upon all consumers, citizens and residents, to ensure that these products are approved for sale by the marketing authorities and cooperative societies responsible for the safety and health of consumers
