Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department have arrested an unidentified plastic surgeon and referred him to the Public Prosecution for conducting plastic surgery and liposuction without licence and causing the death of a 30-year-old Kuwaiti woman, reports Al-Jaridah daily. According to security sources, the tragic case of the victim is considered a resounding scandal for the Ministry of Health and those involved in it.

It has been reported the arrest of the doctor after a Kuwaiti filed a complaint with the Public Prosecution after his daughter, a mother of five children died due to medical error after she underwent liposuction at a private clinic. It has been reported the Kuwaiti asked the Public Prosecutor to conduct a post-mortem on his daughter’s body to determine the cause of death and investigate the matter.

The source added the Public Prosecution ordered an investigation and after collecting the data the investigators discovered the doctor did not have a licence to carry out liposuction and that the surgeries were carried out at rented medical centers and hospitals in violation of the laws laid down by the Ministry of Health.

The three men – the doctor and the owner of the hospital and the owner of the medical center — were taken into custody. The investigators also discovered the doctor had performed dozens of operations and a large number of women were on the waiting list. The source pointed out the doctor was charged with murder and practicing medicine without a license. Meanwhile, the owner of the hospital and the owner of the medical center where the surgeries were performed are out on bail. The doctor has been remanded to police custody for 10 days. He is sent to Central Prison.

The source pointed out the doctor during interrogation has admitted to practicing medicine without license. He also said he had caused serious complications for some patients, even death and paralysis and that the owner of the medical center had always solved things amicably by paying the patients handsome compensations for not exposing him to legal accountability. The source also pointed the doctor has admitted that a single operation cost the patient KD 6,000 and that almost all his customers were women.
