10 March 2017 Crime News

The Criminal Court presided over by Judge Mohammad Ja’afar acquitted an expatriate of inciting people against the government. The defendant had been charged for defying the authority of His Highness the Amir, abusing the use of social media and deriding Shiites in the country. The Public Prosecution blamed the accused for illegitimately inciting people in the country against the authority via Facebook, WhatsApp and Youtube. He is alleged to have violated publicly the reserved rights of HH the Amir and derided Shiites through Facebook and Youtube under the assumed name Khalid Bin Al-Waleed. The accused confessed to using the pseudonym on Facebook and Youtube during investigations but denied the statement in court. Lawyer Zayed Al-Dosari pleaded on his behalf, saying his client was not responsible for the action, because he suffered psychological disorder. He maintained the defendant was not conscious of his actions, supporting the claim with medical report from the Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University.
