Jordanian Gang Held For Stealing, Dismantling, Selling Cars As Scrap
A gang of five Jordanian men, after putting up a strong resistance, have been arrested by officers from Criminal Investigation Department, reports Al-Rai daily. The suspects were allegedly impersonating employees of the Kuwait Municipality to steal, dismantle and sell cars.
The men who have admitted to the charges filed against them said they carried out thefts in several governorates. They have been handed over to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
A security source told Al-Rai after several men filed complaints about car thefts, police investigation led them to the suspects who had been carefully planning their activities in different areas of Kuwait.
The gang members were arrested after a Syrian informed the Ministry of Interior that two men were seen lifting his brother’s car with a tow truck which was parked in front of his home and that when he questioned them they claimed to be Municipality inspectors and that they had orders to lift the car for violating the Municipality laws.
However, after an argument, the men escaped – one in his saloon car and the other in the tow truck. The Syrian then took down the car plate numbers and informed the CID men.
When police ran a check on the car plates, they discovered the vehicles were registered in the names of the Jordanians. When police raided their homes, the men attempted to attack the securitymen but they were overpowered, arrested and handed over for interrogation. During interrogation they confessed to stealing the cars, handing them over to three of their compatriots working in Amghara who sold them as scrap.
