No Improvement In Quality Of Education Despite Hike In Expenditure
A new study about Kuwait’s expenditure on education for 35 years revealed that the quality of education did not improve despite the increase in governmental expenditure in this regard, reports Al-Qabas daily.
Economics Professor in the College of Commercial Studies Dr Wael Al-Shouwaiei carried out the study which revealed the development of educational sector was quantitative only – increase in the number of utilities, schools and classes. The study indicated that the government allocates big budgets for the Ministry of Education, Kuwait University, and Public Authority for Applied Education and Training.
These budgets are allotted for salaries of executives and professors while the budget for development of curricula, books, activities and methods of teaching is limited. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has deducted KD10,000 from the budget of every educational district in line with its austerity measures, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.
Sources disclosed that the deducted amount is the budget allocated for the diwan of the district for one school year – KD5,000 per semester. Sources said the educational districts are currently using the school fund based on the value of contributions.
