Kuwait To Participate In Worldwide Broadcasting Of The Classic Novel 'don Quixote'

On Saturday, 23 April, the National Library of Kuwait will host a very special event. For the first time, Kuwait will participate in the worldwide broadcasting of the simultaneous reading of the classic novel 'Don Quixote'. The eventis organized by the Embassy of Spain and the Fine Arts Circle in Madrid. Every year, Madrid’s Fine Arts Circle selects a number of cities around the world which take turns to read the entire novel. Cultural and educational institutions and other partners participate in the event, each one reading for a maximum of ten minutes and then passing on the relay to another place. The whole reading takes 48 hours, nonstop!

This will be the first time that Kuwait participates in this live event. Four Kuwait hispanists have volunteered to read a short portion of the book. Ms. Afrah Al Mulla, Ms. Hanan Al Sarraj, Mr. Daher Al Shamari and Mr. Hasan Al Jazzaf will each read for approximately two minutes.

Other countries participating this year include Italy, the U.K., the U.S.A., Romania, China, Ukraine, Morocco, Japan and Bulgaria. Of course, there are many Spanish-speaking countries such as Argentina, Cuba, Brasil, Chile, Asunción, Paraguay, Peru, Honduras, Puerto Rico, Mexico and El Salvador.

Several Spanish cities will also participate. 2016 will be the 20th edition of the simultaneous reading “Viva” is sponsoring this event and with cooperation of Decaf Production Co. by providing the technical support for the live audio and video link.
