Kuwait To Witness New Shift In Health Insurance Sector
Kuwait will witness a new shift in the health services sector as the compulsory health insurance for expatriates will move from the Ministry of Health to Daman company as the company will keep pace with the development plan of the state, says Ahmad Al Saleh, Board Member and CEO of Health Insurance Hospitals.
Al-Saleh said in an interview with Al-Rai daily said the current health insurance system needs to be developed to keep abreast with global developments and the Daman project reflects this vision, relieves pressure on health facilities and reduces government spending on the sector.
He added, Daman is equipped with a health system through the establishment of three hospitals and a series of primary health care centers distributed across all governorates of Kuwait according to the demographic distribution of expatriates and places of concentration.
āWe will provide the beneficiary with a unified insurance document covering health coverage through a specific list of medicines and analysis and X-rays.
Al-Saleh pointed out that Damanās hospitals will provide secondary care services only, while anything beyond the secondary care services such specialized care services will be handled by the Ministry of Health and an agreement is underway in this regard with the ministry to determine the start date of the service.
When asked if he has a plan to change the concept of health insurance in Kuwait, Al-Saleh said, the current health insurance system needs to be developed to cope with international developments. The Daman project reflects this vision. It reduces the pressure on Ministry of Health facilities, reduces government spending on the sector, and provides quality healthcare.
Our the concept of health insurance, which Daman was founded to achieve, is to finance health services for residents, ensure the quality of these services, and realize the benefits of beneficiaries, while emphasizing the application of parity concepts that focus on the generalization of quality standards offered to all.
He added, the estimated clinical capacity of Daman hospitals has been determined to provide secondary care only, and for specialized care services, MOH facilities and clinical capacity are used.
