Kuwaiti Minister Says Environmental Conservation Remains Serious Issue
Environmental preservation issues are among Kuwait’s most perennial concerns amid the myriad of challenges facing the world today, a minister said on Tuesday.
Global warming poses a serious threat to even the most biologically diverse natural areas, Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Hussam Al-Roumi said during an exhibition on environmental conservation.
He emphasized that environmental preservation is a collective effort that is incumbent upon all government bodies, citing a slew of projects the government has in store to protect the country’s environment.
The Kuwaiti minister drew a correlation between more stringency in environmental laws and increased job opportunities, saying that an employment boom is possible in the renewable energy sector alone. On the challenges facing the environment in Kuwait, the Environment Public Authority’s deputy director general for technical affairs Mohammad Al-Enezi pinpointed pollution and the protection of natural resources as examples.
He added that environmental preservation is a critical component of Kuwait’s development strategy for the year 2035, pointing out that technology can be used as a handy tool to achieve environmental goals. On the forum, Al-Enezi said it represents an awareness campaign designed to highlight the need of providing a safe and sustainable environment.
