Mp Mohammed Hayef Has Announced Plan For Grilling Against Interior
MP Mohammed Hayef has announced his plan to submit an interpellation motion against Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lieutenant General Sheikh Khaled Al-Jarrah. In a press conference at the National Assembly Media Center, Hayef disclosed the interpellation will be solid and comprehensive.
He hopes the minister initiates a cooperative gesture to address issues prior to the interpellation.
He cited human rights violations as the most important point in the interpellation motion, indicating the issue is getting more complicated even if the minister is keen on attending meetings of the Human Rights Committee. Other points in the interpellation motion include security and managerial matters but the MP refused to reveal another point until the day of interpellation. In another development, the Human Rights Committee visited the shelter for foreign workers recently.
Committee Chairman MP Adel Al-Damkhi confirmed that the condition in the shelter is good, especially in terms of protecting human rights. He called for stronger collaboration between the concerned authorities to raise the standards and solve the remaining issues. He said around 400 foreign workers are currently residing in the shelter, adding that the committee identified areas which need improvement.
The committee intends to invite representatives of all concerned authorities to discuss various recommendations such as reducing the average period of stay in the shelter, particularly for foreign workers from countries without embassies in Kuwait. Al-Damkhi then pointed out that foreign workers should not be allowed to enter Kuwait if their countries have no embassies here.
The shelter is facing many difficulties such as the case of women whose husbands left the country, burdening them with debts. This case must be prioritized as the cost of providing shelter to these women could exceed their unpaid debts, the lawmaker concluded.
