Number Of Kuwaitis Visiting Germany Quadruples - German Embassy
The number of Kuwaitis and residents who applied for a visit visa this year at the German embassy has quadrupled, the German ambassador has said. “According to German statistics, the number of Kuwaitis and foreigners applying to visit Germany had increased fourfold, reaching 60,000,” Karlfried Bergner said on Thursday. The envoy was addressing a press conference marking the start of his tenure in the northern Arabian Gulf country.
Germany remains one of the most popular destinations for Kuwait-based tourists, particularly in summer. The country is also at the top for health check-ups and treatment. Bergner said that Kuwaiti investments in Germany have reached $18.3 billion [Dh67 billion], “a reflection of the strong relations binding the two countries.” He added that the diplomatic mission was working on plans to further develop ties between the two nations.
Bergner lauded Kuwait’s regional efforts in helping refugees in Syria, Yemen, Iraq, and elsewhere, and stressed that Germany was keen on working with Kuwait to help end humanitarian crises plaguing the Middle East region and the world, The ambassador said he appreciated the generous spirit of the Kuwaiti leadership and people, and hoped his term as ambassador would further enhance bilateral relations.
In the health sector, he said there were plans to bring German medical expertise to Kuwait, while in the education sector, efforts are being deployed to establish a branch of a Munich university in Kuwait. Bergner began his diplomatic career in 1989 and held several positions at the German diplomatic missions in Madrid and Washington.
