Ruling Annulled As Kuwaiti Acquitted Of Carrying Drugs

The Criminal Court cancelled the verdict issued in absentia against a Kuwaiti citizen who was sentenced to two-year imprisonment with hard labor and imposed a fine of KD 1,000 over allegations of possessing methamphetamine. The arresting officer testified that he was patrolling Al-Oyoun area when he noticed a vehicle in an isolated desert area. The citizen was accompanied by a number of his friends in the vehicle. He approached the vehicle and asked the group why they are hanging around in such an area. Immediately, all of them ran away except for the defendant who was in a disoriented state. The defense counsel Lawyer Abdulmohsen Al-Qattan stressed that the lawsuit does not include any evidences to prove the drugs obtained from the vehicle belongs to his client.

Appeal dismissed: The Cassation Court dismissed the appeal filed by the Public Prosecution against the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals in a case filed against blogger Hamid Buyabes who is accused of offending Saudi Arabia and committing an aggressive act against a foreign country via his posts on Twitter. The court upheld the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals which refrained from issuing punishment against the blogger and ordered him to pay financial guarantee of KD 5,000 for maintaining good conduct and behavior.

Syrian family fights: Members of a Syrian family engaged in a fistfight due to earlier disputes, resulting in multiple injuries to three of them so they were referred to Farwaniya Hospital. Securitymen and paramedics rushed to the location after the Operations Unit in the Interior Ministry received information on the fight in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh. The injured were taken to the hospital while the other members of the family involved in the fight were referred to the police station in the area.
