Some Makeshift Mosques Promote Extremism
On the issue of demolition of makeshift mosques, some of which are being used as shelter to promote extremist ideas, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Secretary-General of the Higher Committee for the Promotion of Moderation Farid Asad Emadi said, the committee which has been tasked to carry out this work has the mandate of the Council of Ministers, reports Al-Rai daily.
He added, the committee comprises men from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, the Kuwait Municipality and the Committee for Demolition. He added at the heart of the issue are 115 unlicensed makeshift mosques some of which promoted extremism. Emadi said according to the decision issued by the Council of Ministers, all encroachments on government land must be demolished including the makeshift mosques.
;He said imams or muezzins working in these mosques do not have permission from the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. He added, the Ministry of Awqaf suggested addressing this issue by allocating a site licensed by the Municipality taking into account the need for a mosque in the area. “In the event if these makeshift mosques are licensed, they will be built with concrete each of which will cost approximately KD 60,000,” Emadi pointed out.
